TRAFÓ HOUSE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS

Trafó House of Contemporary Arts is a receptive venue unique to Hungary, where theatre, dance, new circus, music and visual arts are presented in an authentic manner. Trafó is not only a well known spot for contemporary arts in Hungary, but is also embedded in the international scene. Trafó’s programme presents domestic and international artists and is curated according to a unified, yet diverse approach, which is experimental and audience-friendly at the same time, based on new directions as well as our cultural memories. Trafó is a mediating site dedicated to social issues, a platform for establishing values and contexts and it also nurtures new ideas and productions. Its performances, concerts, exhibitions, community and audience-building programs invite everyone open to new approaches and address different generations with special attention to youth.

MU THEATRE

MU Theatre is a 130-seater black box presenting contemporary dance, theatre and music productions from both Hungary and abroad. It is an established and well known venue that opened in 1991. Based on a new artistic vision, MU Theatre extended its hosting/receptive function in April 2009, including the launch of a theatre in education programme, pre-show discussions for selected performances, and the management of its own productions. In the compilation of the repertoire, emphasis has shifted from quantity to quality, thus giving more attention to hosted artists and creations. In addition to presenting productions, MU also undertakes to organise and host workshops, seminars and platforms as well as festivals.

SÍN ARTS CENTRE

SÍN Arts Centre is a Budapest-based production house with 4 spacious dance studios, operating in the field of contemporary performing arts. SÍN operates all year round, hosting rehearsals, production periods and researchers of more than 100 artistic formations a year. Beyond the infrastructure it offers a professional environment to work in, production management and fundraising services, support in career development, assistance in finding the best possible context and partners for a specific project. Furthermore SÍN organises workshops led by local or international artists and initiates discussions and cooperations between various stakeholders. SÍN plays an active role in the strategic thinking of the field's present and future in Hungary and beyond the borders and has the aim to develop a flexible and innovative, yet strong community of artists and art professionals locally and globally. 
 

SZKÉNÉ THEATRE

Szkéné Theatre has been operating in its present home in the main building of Budapest University of Technology and Economics since 1970, for more than forty years. This chamber theatre has been the 'alma mater' of the alternative, independent movement in Hungary for decades. Well-known practitioners of almost every branch of artistic life have begun their careers here – theatremakers such as Árpád Schilling or Béla Pintér, dancers, musicians, painters and sculptors and performers have had and still do have today the confidence and the opportunity to try out their talents at the start of their careers. At present the theatre is functioning as a receptive theatre, an open-minded independent theatrical and artistic base, with no resident company.

WORKSHOP FOUNDATION

Workshop Foundation (WSF) was founded in 1993 as an organisation supporting contemporary performing and cross-disciplinary arts. It focuses mainly on the following aspects: social and professional environment, partnership, collaboration, crossing borders both in the geographical sense and between artistic disciplines as well as long-term thinking. WSF runs 4 studios in two highly important art institutes - in Trafó House of Contemporary Arts and in Jurányi Art Incubator House. The Foundation works with nearly 200 Hungarian and foreign artists yearly - principally - on the field of contemporary dance. Workshop Foundation is mostly known abroad for its international coproductions, training and residency programs as well as its active role in networks. Important networks, partnerships: Life Long Burning, Aerowaves, GPS - Movement Research, Philadelphia Dance Projects, PEJA.
